I am delivering a guest lecture at Leeds Met University tomorrow (30th November 2010). This is in aid of their Employability, projects and work experience module for final year students.
See below the top 4 tips I will be discussing to help them plan their online social media job hunt. Can you think of any more?
1. Find out where the Recruiters are:
According to Jobvite Social Recruiting Survey 2010: 78.3% of Recruiters use LinkedIn, 54.6% use Facebook, 44.8% use twitter and 18.7% use blogs
2. Clean up your Online Image
What can employers find out about you online? Who are you friends with? Have you set up your privacy settings to sell the good without the bad?
3. Build an attractive online profile
Don’t copy and paste your CV, get your personal tag line right, highlight your skills and experience, improve your search rank page and keep it professional
4. Promote yourself
Build your network, follow companies and engage with the key recruiters, answer questions, enter discussions, write articles, blogs etc and create your inbound links with email signatures, links on your CV etc.
