Apprenticeship Program – Have you got yours?

With graduate unemployment at a 15 year high and continuing government cut backs, the National Apprenticeships Program, probably has more relevance now than in the last few decades.

For a number of years I have been putting employers in touch with their local apprenticeship programmes and now there is an even easier way for Yorkshire based businesses to take advantage of these schemes.

Debbie Lumby, The Business Advisor from the Leeds, York & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, is part of a brand new department designed at delivering both Apprenticeships and Training Development programmes, to businesses within the Yorkshire area.

In a recent interview between Debbie and myself, she highlighted that “Businesses across the country are now increasingly realising the enormous benefits that apprenticeships and employee development of can create, not only in terms of a highly skilled workforce but also by boosting productivity and staff retention.”

She went on to say that “This is a great opportunity for the Chamber of Commerce to help businesses in the region to access the programmes, it is available to ALL businesses in Yorkshire, not just the Chamber members”

The programs available are:

• Business Administration
• Accounts (AAT)
• Team Leading
• Team Leading
• Insurance
• Management
• Banking

According to the National Apprenticeships Service, 83% of businesses who employ apprentices, rely on their Apprenticeships programme to provide the skilled employees and managers they need for the future!
